FEEDING THE GULF COAST

Through the Americans Feeding Americans Caravan, Feed The Children has helped more than 100,000 families and will help tens of thousands more who are struggling with the economic downturn and natural disaster in cities across the United States, including our military personnel. Our Feeding the Gulf community outreach extended to feeding the Gulf Coast.
 

3,200 Families Receive Help on the Gulf Coast
Feed The Children’s Americans Feeding American’s Caravan, with the support of Coach Sean Payton’s Play It Forward Foundation and ProtectOurCoastline.org, delivered help and hope to 3,200 families affected by the oil spill on the Gulf Coast in late July.

The caravan made a stop in the following Louisiana cities:

• Grand Isle
• Lafitte
• Venice

• Port Sulphur
• St. Bernard/Violet
• Dulac
• Cut Off

The 3,200 families are a part of the 200,000 we plan to reach by the end of 2010 on the caravan.

Gulf Coast Relief Celebration with Sammy Kershaw
Entertainment became a form of relief on July 18th when Sammy Kershaw and Mark Chesnutt along with Wayne Toups held a free benefit concert in Houma, LA. Kershaw and ProtectOurCoastline.org passed out food, essentials and bottled water to 400 families on the latest stop of the Americans Feeding Americans Caravan.

Recovery for Gulf Coast Families
Two semi tractor-trailers of food and water were distributed on June 28 by Feed The Children and Committee for Plaquemines Recovery Partner to help families affected by the Gulf Coast oil spill disaster. The distribution was made possible by generous donations from the Plaquemines Parish community.

Across the United States we are reaching out to those in need with food and essentials. Next, we are heading to Boston and Kansas City where child poverty rates are higher than the national average.
